THE HOLIDAYS

by

Debbie Stanton

Holidays ask us to recall pictures in our minds

pictures of family, love, and new memories

They can bring changes and surprises

like when Uncle Henry actually grabs a broom

and sweeps the kitchen

or Aunt Bea crawls up on the roof to install Christmas lights

Even animals are included in Christmas stories

such as the farm animals that lived in the stable

where the Christ Child was born

or the kitten who slept atop the Christ Child

to keep him warm

Let us choose to celebrate the holidays

with hope, enthusiasm, and peace

since unfortunately holidays don’t come often
