Hi all! I am here to tell you about a new book that’s just arrived on Amazon. The author, Beth Barany, along with her husband Ezra Barany, himself an author, wrote what I think is the best author guide I’ve seen! Without reading the book, I wouldn’t have known that knowing a character’s dreams, goals, and fears can make for a better book. Maybe knowing that information can help you to create conflicts for your characters, which is, after all, what makes a good story.
Think about a magazine you read regularly or one that you liked in the past. Got it? Okay. Now tell me (I love comments below anything I write, by the way) if you liked the articles that showed exactly how to do something.
I LOVED those articles. Always! The more numbered steps, the better, as far as I was concerned. I think it’s because there wasn’t any room for doubt if you just followed the steps in the order given.
That’s why I loved the Baranys’ book. It was helpful and specific. All the exercises were described well, for instance, what you could expect from doing them.
I’m looking forward to using all the helpful information when I go on my personal writer’s retreat next week.
